I saw many calendars and books filled with pictures of women who had gone through breast cancer. They bravely showed their new bodies with pride and peace and I applaud them. But it also it frightened me. I didn’t want to resign myself and accept that I had to come out of breast cancer as a scared statistic. Many women cannot easily separate the physical from the emotional and psychological. Some can; but for many, healing afterward is more than killing the cancer. These pictures are to promote the reclaiming of a woman’s physical beauty that she identified with before – to highlight the woman, the femininity, the peace and love within her – not cancer.
